| Getty President Donald J. Trump, who is running for reelection next year, said on Sunday that he would announce his presidential run next week, though it’s not clear whether he’ll make a final decision on the future of his presidency before the end of the month.
“I’m going to announce my candidacy for reëlection on Tuesday.
I think it’s very important,” Trump said on CBS’s Face the Nation.
“And I think the country needs to see this country go forward.”
Trump, a former reality TV star and reality television personality, has not announced a running mate since he took office in January.
However, the president has previously said that he is open to a vice presidential pick, with Vice President Mike Pence and former Gov.
Mike Pence (R-Ind.) being two candidates he has floated as possible picks.
Trump also said that “I have never been a great candidate,” but added, “I will be a great president if I win.”
Trump has faced criticism from Democrats and others for his handling of the Charlottesville, Virginia, white supremacist rally that resulted in the death of counterprotester Heather Heyer, who was killed when a car plowed into a crowd of counterdemonstrators.
The president has also faced criticism for not doing enough to combat the opioid epidemic, which has caused thousands of Americans to die.
He has also been criticized for refusing to release his tax returns, which could have potentially revealed a conflict of interest that could make him vulnerable to lawsuits.
