The next generation of American fighter jets is set to be unveiled by Lockheed Martin on Thursday.
The announcement of the first-ever aircraft of the new U.F.O.-based F-35B variant was part of a major milestone for the program.
It’s a major departure for Lockheed Martin and the F-22 Raptor program, which is slated to get its first aircraft in 2019.
But Lockheed Martin, which also built the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, said the F35B will be able to do more.
It will be capable of flying the most advanced combat missions, including stealth, long-range air-to-air engagements and close air support missions, Lockheed Martin said in a press release.
Lockheed Martin, the Pentagon’s leading aerospace and defense company, is developing the first F-18B and F-37 fighter jets.
The first F/F-35Bs will be delivered in 2023 and 2025, respectively, and the first batch of F-117s in 2025.
The program is part of the Pentagon and Lockheed Martin’s broader effort to modernize the nation’s air force.
The F-21 and F/B-22 will be replaced by the next-gen F-16 and F.A.Q. fighter planes.
The aircraft’s engines are being upgraded and are expected to be ready by 2019, the Lockheed Martin press release said.
Lockrops is building four of the five F-34 Lightning II fighter jets for the United States Air Force.
The jets, which cost $4.7 billion apiece, will replace the aging F-15 and F.-15E fighter planes and will be powered by Pratt & Whitney’s F135 engine.
The fifth aircraft, the F.18A/B Lightning IIA, will be the next generation for the Air Force, replacing the F.-35.
Lockjet is also building the F110, the largest jet in the Air Guard fleet.
It is expected to carry the F135, the first generation of jet engines.
The Pentagon is expected spend $20 billion to upgrade the Air Mobility Command, a division of the Air National Guard, which has the responsibility for providing strategic air support.
The program includes funding for $1.5 billion for the next Air Force aircraft.
Lockridge and Boeing have been developing a new stealth fighter that will be armed with a pair of F135 engines.
It has been described as the world’s most powerful jet engine, capable of penetrating up to 35,000 feet (11,700 meters) of vertical fuel in a single pass, and capable of reaching speeds of Mach 5 (about 1,300 mph).
It can also fly faster than any other fighter plane.
